How do you choose your pool lighting?

1. Type of lighting

Pool lighting options vary mainly between LEDs, halogens and incandescent lamps. LEDs have become popular due to their longevity and energy efficiency. They offer a variety of colours and brightness levels, making it possible to create tailor-made effects for every occasion. Halogens and incandescent lamps, although less energy-efficient, are often appreciated for their warm, welcoming light.

2. Installation and compatibility

Before you buy any lights, make sure they are compatible with the type of pool you have (above-ground or in-ground). Installation can vary greatly depending on the type of luminaire and the design of the pool. Some models, such as those in the CF Premium range, feature brass inserts for easy installation and replacement without damage, and are suitable for all types of pool.

3. Resistance and durability

Constant exposure to water and pool chemicals means that luminaires need to be tough and durable. Look for products that are UV-treated and corrosion-resistant. Materials such as ABS in the CF Premium range guarantee extra durability against the elements and chemicals.

4. Safety

Safety is an absolute priority when it comes to pool lighting. Opt for low-voltage systems to minimise the risk of electrical accidents. Also make sure that the lights are certified for underwater use and comply with current safety standards.

5. Aesthetics

Lighting is a key element in the aesthetics of your pool. Choose styles and colours that complement your pool environment. Colour options can range from classic white lights to dynamic colours for evening event effects.

6. Energy and Cost Savings

Although low-energy options such as LEDs are more expensive to buy, they are more economical in the long term because of their low energy consumption and long life. Lighting that is more expensive initially but more economical over time can be a good choice.

How do you change your pool lighting?

Here are a few steps to help you change your pool lighting reliably and efficiently:

  • Safety first

Before you start, make sure that all electrical systems connected to the pool are switched off. Switch off the main power supply to avoid any risk of electrocution

  • Remove the old lighting

For recessed lights, unscrew or unclip the light cover. You may need to use a screwdriver or special spanner. Carefully remove the bulb or LED unit, taking care not to damage the cables and connectors

  • Install the new luminaire

Fit the new bulb or LED unit. Ensure that all joints and cables are properly secured to prevent water ingress. Follow the manufacturer’s wiring instructions if you are installing a new type of luminaire.

  • Test before you finalise

Before replacing the luminaire cover and switching the power back on, test the new luminaire to make sure it works properly. This will save you having to dismantle the whole thing if you have any problems.

  • Finish and waterproofing

Once you’re sure the luminaire is working properly, replace the cover and make sure it’s watertight. It may be necessary to apply a silicone seal around the cover for optimum watertightness.

  • Restore the power supply and check that

Restore the power supply, then carry out a final check by switching on the lights. Make sure that everything is working as it should and that the lighting covers the desired areas of your pool

Additional tip:

  • If you’re not sure about the procedure, or if you need to install a new wiring system, it’s advisable to call in a qualified professional. You can’t just become an electrician!

By taking these criteria into account, you can choose and install a lighting system that not only beautifies your pool, but also ensures safety, efficiency and durability. The perfect pool lighting system will allow you to enjoy your little aquatic paradise at any time, with complete peace of mind.
